Ouch!

Ah I went to the dentist today so needless to say I am feeling a little discomfort. Since I'm a little under the weather I am calling it a night. I do want to share something regarding this AMAZING animal rescuer by the name of Ashley Owen Hill. I will go into detail tomorrow but for now please, please, please read her blog which is on the right side of the page. The name of her blog is Lucky Dog Rescue.

Good night!!

Deuter

So this morning was interesting.

I woke up because I felt someone touching my head and then I felt a kick. So when I woke up this is what I saw.
Deuter sleeping
Really, Deuter? He is a big kitty so the kick he gave me actually hurt. I tried moving him but he wouldn't budge. Then he just lifted his head up and stared at me as if I was the crazy one. You can't fight with a cat  that's as stubborn as their owner.

I got up and started to read for class. I got side tracked because I started thinking about our cats and how they act.

A lot of people claim that cats have no personality and that dogs are so much better because they greet you at the door, and show you just how much they're happy to see you. Yes, I see the differences. When I get home Chi Chi is sitting by the door and the minute I close the door behind me she jumps up to greet me. As soon as I sit down on the couch she jumps up and puts her paws on my shoulders and wags her tail. It's hilarious because she just looks so happy.  She isn't the only one that does that though.

Mayhem always waits by the door next to Chi Chi; so does Misty, Mischief (if she's in the mood), Latte (because he thinks we have treats for him), Deuter and Tidy are always sleeping when we get home and you can usually find them on the bed or in one of their other spots.

They all greet me differently just because they each have a different personality.

For example if we're sitting on the couch watching TV, Deuter will sit next to my husband and tap him on his leg. This is a sign that he wants to be pet. (His way, if he doesn't feel that you are giving him your undivided attention he vocalizes)  Latte will run from where ever he is as soon as he hears someone going to the kitchen. If I'm sitting at the table having breakfast and if I happen to be eating toast he sits right next to my head on the back of the chair tapping me on the shoulder because he wants a piece.

Everyday my cats and Chi Chi have different ways of making us laugh. Chi Chi is more forward in her approach versus the cats who are more subtle in showing their affection.

Therefore, it is not that cats lack personality or that dogs are better it's that they're different. In a good way. If people would give them a chance they would be able to see just how great they are.

Thanks for reading! Have a good night!

The Glaring (A True Story)

One day the husband and I were at the supermarket when we saw a poster that announced: "Free Kitties."

We had discussed getting a pet and we decided that we wanted a cat because I was still not prepared to get another dog. Lucky, who was my faithful companion for 15 years had died in December of 2006. It was now May of 2008 and I still wasn't ready to let go. He was such a great dog and the thought of him not be around made me so sad that even when I think of him today I miss him. :( Ah...back to the story.

So we thought a kitty would be good. We called the number and the lady who was giving away the kitties(who we adore and are friends with) told us that we could come by and pick a kitty. Well we didn't get to pick because from under the couch came this beautiful black and white tuxedo who went up to my husband and claimed him her's. This is our first cat known as Mischief.

She chose my husband, I was just an added bonus for her but this particular kitty adores him so Mischief ended up being his cat. Okay.

A few months later I think it was September or October we were walking to the pharmacy when we passed by a vet's office. In a cage by the window is this gorgeous black and white tuxedo cat with a white line on his lip that made him look angry. We immediately went in there and adopted him. His name is Mayhem and he chose me. Mayhem follows me everywhere. If I get up to go to the kitchen he's there, if I go to another room he follows, if I go to take a shower he tries to get in.

So we have these two amazing cats that quickly turned into seven. That's right the lesson to learn is to spay and neuter your pets at the appropriate age. We waited too long and Mischief got pregnant. We weren't going to get rid of her litter because we had a responsibility and since we didn't follow through with spaying her we now had to do whatever we had to do.

I think at first it might have been a crazy decision but now I don't think it was. We love our cats and we hope they love us too. Mischief ended up having 5 kittens. Deuter, Latte, Falkor, Mistyoffeles, and Tidy.

Unfortunately, we lost Falkor at 2 months because he got sick. He died at the vet's office door. I was 1 minute from seeing the vet.

His siblings are all with us and they along with Mischief and Mayhem own us.

A year later my mom adopted two cats that were roaming our neighborhood. Their names are Muñeca and Mr. Cat. Although they are my mom's cats we love them dearly. Just recently she adopted Hope another cat that was roaming our neighborhood who has an ulcer in her eye.

Yes we have many cats under one roof but they bring us happiness and they each have their own personalities. Now that we have them I can't see my life without them.

A few months ago my mom rescued a dog that was on the side of the road, in the pouring rain trying to figure out how to cross the street. The poor dog was so terrified that she would wobble back and forth between the edge of the road and the actual road. She brought her in to our home and I took care of her. She was in such bad shape that we thought she got hit by a car. When we took her to the vet there was nothing wrong with her, apparently she just gave up.

So I took care of her for 2 months before she started to show signs that she was going to be okay. I didn't have the heart to give her away so I named her Chi Chi. She is amazing, loyal and hilarious. The great thing is that the real owners of the house known as our cats, accepted her.

Okay one more pet. Our parrot who has been in our family for 19 years is Cucho. He was Lucky's friend and  he get's along with everyone. He doesn't really talk much but when he wants to make his presence known he does.

I know many of you or anyone that read this thinks I'm insane because we have so many pets but think about it. These pets are loyal and they didn't ask us to come here. We brought them and we decided to take care of them. I know that some people don't like having pets or don't like animals in general but I don't know I feel so bad especially when I see cats and dogs on the street with no one to care for them. I wish I could save them all.

Welcome!

Hello!

My name is Rossemary and this blog is about my glaring(cats), ChiChi my newly adopted dog and any other thoughts that I may wish to share on a daily basis.

Sometimes you just need to vent or just share any thoughts you may have. These are one of the many reasons why I decided to do this. Therefore, before I get started let me introduce myself.

I was born in Lima, Peru and I came to the US at the age of 1. My mom and I first moved to NY and lived there for approximately 2 years. After those 2 years we moved to Florida.

I went to school here, graduated college, worked a while and now I'm back at the university. I'm currently studying to be an elementary school teacher. I currently have a BA in Political Science and a BA in Communication Arts. I guess I'm classified by many as a "career changer" but to be honest I never even had the chance to make a career out of the first two degrees I acquired!  You learn, so moving on...

I can't even remember when but I wanted to be a lawyer for years until last December when I decided that I was insane. We had just gotten off stage after performing Handel's Messiah when my feet were killing me and I needed water but I was so unbelievably happy to be a part of such a great experience. That's when I decided that I should really be singing for the rest of my life. So...I'm also not only going to school but I'm learning to sing all over again.

Look, I have been singing since I was 5, I sang through all of my academic life, I even got a scholarship to attend college but, what I realized was that I was not doing it correctly. I returned to the university to learn about music and to also change careers.

Realistically speaking, everyone knows that a career in music is not only challenging but that it is also not guaranteed. My entire life my mom has given me the fantastic advice of always going for your dreams but to also have a back up. We back up our files so why not back up a dream? Life is so uncertain and it's scary because I will be the first to admit that I can be a dreamer and I aim high so when I fall, I fall hard.

So going back to singing correctly, I have been taking voice lessons with this AMAZING professor who has given me another chance to really sing, grow and she has helped me understand that with real dedication you can improve and achieve any vocal goals you may have.

I am married to a wonderful man who has put up with my insanity by allowing me to rescue my cats and dog, and who has also been supportive of my career decision every step of the way.

Now that you know about me I can write some more!
